More images from the Brodsko kolo in Slavonski Brod, Croatia (9 June 2013). The Brodsko kolo, now in its 49th year, is the oldest folk dancing festival in Croatia, and features performances by ensembles from all over Croatia as well as Bosnia and Hercegovina, Vojvodina etc.


It can take up to two hours to put on some of the beautifully elaborate traditional folk costumes seen here, each one distinctive to its own region. Above: Young women from Rečica-Karlovac (left), Korčula (centre), Vranovci-Bukovlje (right) and Vojvodina (below) in traditional folk costume.

Sibenik cathedral

Some images of St Jacob’s Cathedral in Šibenik, Croatia – the finest piece of Renaissance architecture in Croatia, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It’s a phenomenally beautiful building, with some wonderfully emotive sculpture.

Šibenik’s cathedral was built between 1431 and 1535 by the architects Juraj Dalmatinac and Nikola Firentinac.
