Rudolf Abraham is an award-winning travel writer and photographer specialising in Central and Eastern Europe – in particular Croatia, Slovenia and Montenegro – Austria, France and Italy.
He is the author of over a dozen books including Walking in the Salzkammergut, Peaks of the Balkans, Walks and Treks in Croatia, The Alpe Adria Trail, The Mountains of Montenegro, National Geographic Traveler Croatia, and co-author of Istria. The Bradt Travel Guide, and has contributed to many more, most recently DK Eyewitness Slovenia and Unforgettable Journeys. He wrote the first English-language hiking guidebooks to Croatia and Montenegro, as well as to the Peaks of the Balkans and Alpe Adria long-distance trails, and is currently working on a guide to the new Juliana Trail in Slovenia. With a background in art history, he frequently writes about the art and architecture of Europe and the Middle East. His work is published widely in magazines and online including BBC Countryfile, B.Inspired, Canvas, Easyjet Traveller, Evening Standard, France Magazine, Geographical, Hidden Europe, The Independent, Morning Calm, The National, OE, Songlines, The Telegraph and The Great Outdoors.
Rudolf first visited Croatia and Slovenia in the late 1990s, returned to live in Zagreb for two years, and continues to make several trips a year to his favourite corner of Europe. When not at home in London, he can usually be found hiking through the mountains of Austria, Slovenia or one of the more remote corners of the Balkans, photographing traditional culture and festivals, or hiding away on a small island somewhere on the Croatian Adriatic.
